Why Writing Matters (More Than You Might Think)
Have you ever wondered when man started to write, why, and what was used? I have.
Turns out, writing has been around for a very long time. The earliest form we know of—cuneiform—goes all the way back to ancient Sumer, around 3400 BCE. People first used it to track goods, but soon enough, they were writing down laws, stories, prayers. The Egyptians had hieroglyphics. Later came sacred texts like the Vedas, the Bible, and the Quran—written words that carry deep meaning today, still.
But what fascinates me most isn’t just the history. It’s what writing still does for us today.
When I write—whether it’s a journal entry, a quick thought, or something longer—it helps me think more clearly. It slows my mind down, helps me notice things I might’ve missed, and often calms that noisy part of my brain that’s always spinning.
It’s also one of the few things that brings me back to myself. In a world that pulls our attention in every direction, writing helps me focus. It gives my thoughts a place to land. It’s kind of like exhaling.
You don’t need to be a professional writer. You just need a pen, or a keyboard, and a few minutes. Writing doesn’t judge. It listens.
I’ll be sharing specific ideas, favorites, and creative finds in future posts — stay tuned!
